The brand
The legend began for Bronx-born Calvin Klein in 1968 with a range of coats. He was an immediate hit and he soon made minimalist, all-American glamour his own.
In the early seventies, he designed award-winning womenswear and lingerie - and made Vogue’s front cover. The brand soon became infamous for its pioneering advertising campaigns. Think Brooke Shields in nothing but Calvin Klein jeans, Kate Moss and Obsession perfume, which launched the early nineties’ waif movement and Marky Mark (Mark Wahlberg), with his washboard stomach and white Calvin briefs, which made sexy male underwear mainstream.
By the time Calvin Klein stepped down in 2002, his brand was a household name around the world. Brazilian-born Francisco Costa took over as Creative Director of the Calvin Klein Collection for Women. And he’s helped to raise the fashion stakes with his understated and effortlessly elegant creations.
