In 1921, after working in London’s Savoy hotel looking after wealthy guests, Guccio Gucci returned to his native Florence. There, he opened a leather goods company and luggage shop, marrying refined English taste with the unique skills of Tuscan artisans.

The luxe label soon became the height of chic with the sophisticated international clientele, holidaying in Florence. They adored Gucci’s equestrian-inspired collection, stamped with iconic, interlocking double Gs of his initials.

Gucci has had its ups and downs, as well as family dramas over the decades. But in more recent years, amazing designers like Tom Ford and Gucci’s current creative director, Frida Giannini, have made it one of the most influential labels in the world.
