The Best Looks from New York Fashion Week

With New York Fashion Week coming to its swift end and with London Fashion Week just on the horizon, we thought we’d take a look back at the best shows from overseas. We loved them, so we thought you might too.

Calvin Klein

With Raf Simons’ surprise takeover at All-American house Calvin Klein, we waited impatiently for the results, and needless to say we were not disappointed. Bringing in political messages referencing Trump, this is a relevant collection full of surprises that comb both classic and contemporary times.

Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang has definitely played to his strengths this season, with trademark black leather and grunge vibes being honed and perfected. This is sure going to get a line of wilful shoppers hoping to get a piece of the action, and with cult followers such as A$AP Rocky and Zoe Kravitz, it’s no wonder his label is the envy of every cool kid worth their salt.

Yeezy

The much-talked about Yeezy Season 5 is one for all streetwear and Kanye lovers to fawn over. King of drama Kanye toned things down a little this season, yet remained true to that old Kanye West DNA that we love so much. Streetwear elevated.

Jeremy Scott

This was everything you would expect to find at a Jeremy Scott show and more. Playful, wild and everything fun, this is a show that insists on not taking fashion too seriously and to have fun with it. If conservative dressing is your thing, this definitely won’t be.

Coach 1941

Gingham seemed to be a pretty prominent theme in Coach’s latest collection, with shearling fur making appearances as well. Coach’s latest collection definitely embodied the free spirit of America, which could be in response to recent right-leaning change-ups on the political landscape.

Prabal Gurung

Prabal Gurung took his bow wearing a ‘This is What A Feminist Looks Like’ tee. The design, along with Bella Hadid-modelled reimagining of ‘The Future is Female’, will no doubt sell out. But then again, sheer, floral and fur separates won’t fare too badly either. These, along with other stereotypically ‘feminine’ tropes were made well and truly badass on his catwalk.

Victoria Beckham

In a Victoria Beckham show, maroon-lovers and power-dressers will never be disappointed. This week’s offering was no exception. An autumnal palette and leather gloves pulled up to tricep-height joined the usual offering of androgynous suiting.

Diane von Furstenberg

The Furstenberg brand will always be synonymous with the wrap dress, though perhaps fashion journalists should add pattern and accessories to that list. This was an eclectic yet concise collection of thoroughly contemporary pieces.
