Gothic and Dark Victorian A/W trends to inspire your Halloween looks

With invites to haunted houses and Halloween balls, our outfits need to stretch beyond fancy dress to head into the serious style stakes. Gone are the days where putting on cat ears and painting on some whiskers with black eyeliner is enough.

Thanks to the creative sphere, otherwise known as the internet, now you can recreate intricate ghoul faces and don full skeletal bodysuits before you can say, “Abracadabra”.

We wanted to explore how to pull off two of this season’s AW15 Halloween-inspired catwalk trends: Gothic and Dark Victorian to make you the vamp of the ball this Hallows’ Eve. First up is everyone’s 90s favourite:

Gothic Halloween

With black lipstick, patent leather details and black chokers all making an appearance, it’s easy to feel as if you are back in the 90s. Keep it current by being minimalist with your gothic look, adding just one element and letting your make-up do the rest. Plum lip anyone?

The designers who showcased the best of this all-black trend were Givenchy and Alexander McQueen.

Dark Victorian

If the draw of Twilight has you lusting for a pleasantly pale partner this Halloween, look no further than the Dark Victorian trend where you can meet your match. This trend for AW15 could have been taken straight from the cult film classic Interview with a Vampire. From the high collars to velvet touches, everything about this trend oozes opulence.

Designers who took this trend all the way to the witching hour included Alexander McQueen and Marc Jacobs. Get the look for less here…

We asked the team at BrandAlley HQ what their MUST-WATCH scary films are to get you in the Halloween spirit. How many are on your list?

The Craft: “This takes me back to my younger teens where my friends and I wore head-to-toe outfit inspiration from these witches. Best Halloween ever!” – Kristina, PR and Brand Manager

– Practical Magic: “A family favourite with an edge. Some scary moments and brilliant script from two of my favourite leading actresses, Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock”. – Melissa, Marketing Director

– Hocus Pocus: “One that brings back memories of prancing around the living room on my gran’s kitchen broom singing ‘come little children…” – Hayley, PR and Marketing Exec

– The Poltergeist: “A ghost story that still gives me chills to this day. One to watch once I’ve put the kids to bed!” – Steve, Creative Manager
