Mix and MAX your training in 2016 – your New Year fitness resolution with Melissa Scott. Plus look your best in Asquith.

The New Year fitness resolution…we’ve all done it, sign up to a gym, with great intentions of a fitter, firmer you. But somehow we never quite found the time to squeeze in some squats, resulting in us still squeezing into our jeans come February.

Stats show that a third of those that sign up to the gym on the 1st January have made the all-important call to quit their membership only one month later!!

We decided that here at BrandAlley that we did NOT want to fall into this statistic and so enlisted our fitness guru, Melissa Scott to help us through.

424A0176xSo, Melissa, where do we start and how do we maintain it?

“So, you’ve yet another New Year fitness resolution?! And truly want to make a positive impact on your shape and health? Well, take my advice and mix up your activities to maximise your results.

Your body is designed for movement and loves to be physically challenged. If you are bored of your usual exercise routine, rest assured your body is too and any initial fat loss/toning results will slowly grind to a halt.

Make change – bring challenge.

Simply taking on a rotation of different disciplines will keep your body challenged, super charged to burn more calories and fired up with enthusiasm to get to your next training session. The physical and mental results are priceless.

TOP TIPS:

Decide on 3-5 types of exercise you either enjoy and/or haven’t yet tried.

For example, if you already run and dog walk add in yoga, boxing, spin, Pilates, TRX, strength training, climbing wall, bike ride or anything else available to you locally. Combine a balanced mix of flexibility, aerobic and strength work for maximum results in minimum time.

No matter what, include YOGA!

It will change your body shape, release stress and bring a flexible ease to your body.

Get your heart rate UP.

Ensure some of your activity choices train the heart muscle and stretch the lungs. This is where you will improve stamina and burn calories.

Muscle UP

Don’t worry. Pushing your own bodyweight around will not turn you into Arnold Schwarzenegger. However, if you want definition and arms/abs to die for, get yourself strength training. Squat, lunge, lift, crunch, balance, pull and press will deliver your best ever physique.

BONUS: more muscle = more calories burning ALL DAY!

Vitamin D.

Get outside, especially through the winter months and feel the benefits daylight brings; enhancing your mood and energy through the release of endorphins, aiding prevention of colds/flu.

Add in a daily juiced ginger shot and BOOM you’ll be feeling great!”

Wow, thanks Melissa. We’ll keep you updated on how many of us manage to keep up the good work.
