What Went Down at The BRIT’s

Plenty happened at The BRIT’s last night. It wasn’t quite as good as the year Arctic Monkeys accepted an award dressed as Wizard of Oz characters. Nor was it characterized by Madonna falling backwards offstage, but then, you can’t have everything.

Instead, The UK’s answer to The Grammy’s gave us giant political skeletons, toppling paper houses and two spectacular ZAYN snubs. Read on to find out more.

Trump & May Make a Cameo

When Katy Perry took to the stage, two enormous skeletons followed her on. The prancing spectres were dressed in the same clothes that UK Prime Minister Theresa May and US President Donald Trump wore in the former’s recent state visit. Many are convinced that the match is not a coincidence, and that the product design was a blatant criticism of Anglo-American politics.

Zayn Gets The Snub

As newly solo artist, Zayn was nominated twice for his single Pillowtalk. In the ‘Best British Video’ category, his work lost out to ex-bandmates One Direction.

Meanwhile, the same record lost out to ex-girlfriend Perrie Edwards and her group Little Mix. The song that beat him? Shout Out to my Ex. Awkward.

David Bowie Reigns Posthumously

David Bowie, who passed away last January, was the big name of the evening. In death, Ziggy Stardust still managed to win statuettes for British male solo artist and Mastercard British album of the year for his final work Blackstar.

Robbie’s ‘Icon’ Status Splits Opinion

Robbie Williams performed on the night in the wake of picking up the BRIT’s Icon Award. With previous winners like David Bowie, Elton John and Eric Clapton, is it any surprise that some expressed reservations that Robbie should be afforded the same accolade.

We’re just gutted that he didn’t perform Angels…

Ed Sheeran Performed with Stormzy

Talk about a power pairing! The world’s biggest male pop star performed current Number One UK hit Shape of You with Grime God Stormzy.

The collaboration will be released this Friday, the same day as Stormzy’s debut album Gang Signs and Prayer.
