In April 2016, global superstar Beyonce Knowles launched Ivy Park, a new sportswear brand named after her daughter Blue Ivy. In collaboration with Arcadia CEO Phillip Green, the collection launched at Topshop, where it is still sold.

Beyonce’s motivation for her line came from a dissatisfaction with the sportswear industry as it stood. Her aim was to launch a company that was diverse in its sizing, its advertising and its recognition that “beauty is more than physical appearance.”

She designed her first collection for all women, arguing that sport isn’t for the marginal few usually featured in athleisure advertisements.

The original collection featured crop T-shirts with the label’s logo, stretch running leggings in various rises, plus sports bras and hooded jumpers. Since spring 2016, each line has riffed and expanded upon this core of essentials.
