7 Hair Trends and Hairstyles for Autumn Winter 2019

COS.com

It’s officially autumn, which means one thing – new hair trends. Along with spiced lattes, chunky knits and Halloween films, getting a new hairdo is one the things we’re most excited about this season.

While we’re all in the midst of transitional dressing and digging out our winter coat(s) from the attic, what better time to think about a brand new look for AW19?

So whether you’re ready for a big chop (eek), or just getting some hair inspo for Mother dearest, here are seven hair trends that are set to be BIG over the next few months…

Red heads

Unless you’re lucky enough to blessed with gorgeous, thick red hair, we’ve all wished we were a red head at some point.

Well, listen up ladies! Now’s the time to take the plunge and channel your inner Miranda Hobbes. From strawberry blonde to bright red, there are no do’s and don’t here when it comes to colour (unless you accidentally bleach your hair bright orange ahem).

Just be prepared for your manager to ask “is that really you?” when you walk in Monday morning.

Pixie cut

One of our favourite hair trends this season is the pixie cut.

It may have been exclusive to elfin-like creatures a few years ago, but thankfully, more and more ladies are going for the chop.

Look to the runways of Paris and London fashion week and you’ll notice a fair handful of models sporting a pixie cut or buzz cut. And if it’s good enough for them…

Hollywood Glam

Who says you need to be in Hollywood for a little Hollywood glam?

We don’t mean going full Angelina Jolie with a $50k dress, styling your hair into a red-carpet-worthy style will do.

Think old Hollywood waves and recreate this iconic look with your trusty ironing tongs. Add a statement earring into the mix and you’ll look a million bucks.

Half up, half down

OK, so we’re not re-inventing the wheel here, but you know what they say – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

A simple half-up, half-down hairstyle will do just the trick, though go easy on the curling tongs and hairpins or you run the risk of looking like a runaway bride.

If you have Afro-Caribbean or curly hair this will look fab whatever the length.

Crimped hair trend

Crimped hair!? Really?? Yep.

If you still have a vintage crimping tool from circa 2001 feel free to use them to create this beachy bake look.

Alternatively, take it into 2019 with a looser style by going to bed with slightly damp hair and applying a leave-in product overnight. Brush though in the morning and finish with a smoothing cream to combat any unwanted frizz. Et voila!

If your hair does go a little frizzy, fear not, you’ll only resemble a model from a designer catwalk (Philip Lim for AW19 to be exact)!

Curly bangs

Curly will already know about the magic of bangs.

Easy to cut at home and even easier to maintain, these layers add texture and definition to hair.

Add an extra dimension with soft, light highlights and fall in love with your new mane.

Hair accessories to the max

Slogan hair clips, slides, barrettes, pearls – anything and everything goes.

This is one hair trend that’s been on our radar for a while now and it looks as though it’s here to stay.
