Big eyebrows – the hottest trend in beauty

We’ve all been there where we’ve spent an evening trying to tidy up unruly eyebrows only to end up a bit too tweezer happy and plucking them to almost a line.

Trouble is, back then that look wasn’t that strange and actually quite en vogue. Well 2012 is a new era and eyebrows are big and bold and here to stay. Cara Delavigne has a lot to answer for with the hottest trend in beauty this year!

They may be big and bold, but these brows are not the unkempt beasts we sported back in the 80’s. It’s all about a thick line of shapely brow that’s got the models, make-up artists and stars making us reach for a brow brush and colour.

Make-up artist Pecheux went for full and plump creating angles by pencilling the brows straight across with the same thickness from end-to-end at Derek Lam Spring/Summer 2012. He repeated the look at the Altuzarra show and this has only gone from strength to strength seeing models all over the SS13 catwalks channelling the look. It seemed the bigger the better when it came to brown.

You’d think this is a trend suited only for the dark skinned and naturally dark haired ladies, but this is one trend regardless of hair colour. Actress Kate Bosworth proves that even the fair skinned blonde babes can work the strong brow. Adding definition and framing the face, big brows widen the eyes and have an air of innocence mixed with danger. At the other end of the spectrum, another actress Camilla Belle also shows the bold brow look. As fairly naturally thick, Camille doesn’t have to try hard with this trend and with her raven locks she looks utterly sensational. Out in NYC recently, the actress vamped up the drama with arching brows and statement raspberry lips. It seems the age old rule of lips or eyes goes out the window with this trend so go big and bold for a show-stopping look.

This isn’t a new-fangled look, but with almost everything in fashion and beauty, we have our predecessors to thank for the biggest trend to sweep the nation (and stick!) this season. As early founders, Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn knew a big brow meant business and oozed glamour. Model Emily Senko channels Audrey Hepburn’s brow-accentuating pose, showing that big brows are beautiful, so if you haven’t already, pick up a brow pencil and lightly colour in your brow. Our personal tip, get an arched brow brush and a dark brown eye-shadow and work the colour up slowly going just above your natural brow. Add an angle towards the top middle of the brow for the natural arch and you’ll be loving this look in no time.
