How We’re Wearing Denim Jeans in 2021

If we’ve learnt one thing during Lockdown one, two …and three, it’s that skinny denim jeans are now the enemy. OK, that may be slightly dramatic – yet, whilst our old faithful skinnies have reliably served us over the past ten years, a desire for comfort and well, change has put them well and truly out of favour – at least according to the fashion pack.

Instead? There’s plenty of new ways to still incorporate denim jeans to your wardrobe. From bootcut to flares, here are the denim cuts which are trending for 2021, courtesy of J Brand, and how we at BrandAlley are intending to wear them.

Flared Denim Jeans

The 70’s are back – at least in style form, anyway. Embrace your inner (and outer) femme self in some fitted flares, then keep things simple and pair with a crisp white shirt and pumps for the ultimate cool-girl look. It’s an effortless ensemble you can look to time and time again, so invest in quality options for longevity.

Wide Leg Jeans

When it comes to denim jeans in 2021, the mantra is – the wider the better. The last time you wore baggy jeans may have been in your teens, but it’s time to revisit that trend with (slightly) more mature taste.

To balance the oversized cut of the jeans, broach for a more fitted option on your top half, and keep it tucked in for a flattering form. A plain tee and tailored blazer is a considered weekend look, and we recommend sporting your flared jeans with some boots or heels to allow your feet to peep out.

Boot Cut Jeans

Boot cut jeans have been at the bottom of the style pile for a long time now, but as is with fashion – everything is circular, so it’s time to dig your trusted old friends out of the attic, or, better yet, invest in a new pair.

The slight crop makes these a versatile offering for both cooler and warmer months, simply switch up sandals for boots in winter. Year-round we love boot cut jeans paired with a slouchy knit or off-the-shoulder top, then accessorise dependant on the occasion (the more, the better – always).

Straight Leg Jeans

Straight leg jeans have been en vogue for a while now, but they’re set to flourish even more over the coming months. The best part? The perfect pair will go with literally everything in your wardrobe.

From sweatshirts and sneakers on off-duty days to a cami top and heels on date night, a pair of straight leg denim jeans is non-negotiable for any style conscious woman’s repertoire.

Coloured Jeans

Switch things up from the classic blue hue of your denim and bring some vibrancy to your look with a pair of coloured jeans.

Perfect for bringing a pop of personality to your ensembles, a playful pair of coloured or printed jeans is just the ticket for the denim lover who is ready for a bit of a change.
