Fashion Falls: The Do’s and Don’ts of a Transitional Wardrobe

Struggling to know what to wear this summer-slash-autumn-slash-winter-slash-who knows? Us too!

It goes without saying that we’ve been unlucky with the weather recently. Let’s face it, you can leave the house in the morning with torrential rain pouring down and find yourself stripping down to your tiniest layer come lunch. But the question is this: how can you prepare with what to wear – whatever the weather?

The answer is in the question of course… prepare!

By strategically thinking about your outfit choice, you can pretty much cover most conditions. It may sound like a no-brainer, but do check your weather app the night before and don’t leave planning your ensemble to the morning of.

Jaeger Trench Coat // L K Bennett Red Cayla Full Skirted Dress // L K Bennett
Black/White Leather Inferna Court Shoes

Do: Colour Code; opt for sunset ambers and autumnal reds as this colour perfectly encapsulates both summer sunsets and autumn leaves. If you’re wearing a dress, choose a closed toe shoe and keep a pair of opaque tights in your handbag in case the temperature drops. Layer with a lightweight trench coat and you won’t be dashing for cover when the rain reminds you you’re in Britain. And finally finish with a totally kissable classic red lip.

DON’T: Mistreat your hosiery. Handle with care and hand wash.

Josh V Yanti Distresses Skinny Jeans // L K Bennett Light Grey Jema Merino Wool Cardigan // L K Bennett Black/White Leather Bette Trainers

DO: Learn to layer, like a player! Experiment with texture and shades of colour. Start from the bottom (layer) and work out. Keep a range of simple vests in neutral colours for every season, for summer choose a lighter cotton blend and as you transition to autumn/winter opt for a thicker knit cashmere. Add a simple wrap cardigan/coatigan that will comfortably sit under a coat should you need it come winter. Throw on a pair of distressed denim jeans and cute pumps for a casual-cool look.

DON’T: Go OTT. Never go for more than three layers,  unless you’re adding a scarf.

Scott & Scott London Kat Cashmere Jumper // Christian Louboutin Leather Alarc Stud Stilettos // L K Bennett Lupin Slim Leg Trousers

DO: Swap out skirts for suit trousers. Dress up or dress down, these are the most versatile pants around.  Throw on a simple cashmere sweater for ease, or a fitted T-shirt for an androgynous casual look. Wear yours with killer heels to make statements or sneakers to make buses.

DON’T: Forget to finish the look with a belt.

So there you have it, don’t pack away your summer wardrobe just yet, get creative.
