Our Experience at The Ritz: Afternoon Tea Edition

Afternoon Tea at The Ritz

A truly remarkable dining experience!

Let me introduce myself.
I’m Patience, BrandAlley’s Marketing Copywriter, and I’m inviting you to come with me as I indulge in a slice of the finest British tea tradition. From the remarkable doorman greeting to the quintessentially English tea blends and elegant musical ensembles, this is The Ritz…

A rare treat…

Now afternoon tea at The Ritz isn’t something I do often, and to be completely honest, it’s something I had thought about doing – until now… The occasion? I wanted to make the favourite sibling, so I decided to treat my expensive sister to a luxurious surprise: The Ritz, the most iconic 5-star luxury hotel in the heart of Mayfair, and I must say I’ve never seen opulence quite like it.

But First, Tea!

The Experience begins with your chosen tea blend. From The Ritz Royal English Tea to the Earl Grey Imperial and Moroccan Mint, there are 18 varieties of loose-leaf tea on the menu, hand-blended by the resident tea master. Can’t decide which tea? Indulge in any and every tea blend you desire, the options are endless and with the greatly attenable waitresses you’ll be able to change your tea blend at any time. Our favourite was The Ritz Royal English – you can’t beat a classic. I also loved the extra spice added to The Ritz Chai.

You can also opt for a champagne celebration, coffee and non-alcoholic beverages. But I kept it traditional and quenched our thirst with copious amounts of tea, whilst savouring a selection of finely cut sandwiches and sweet masterpieces. Think: caramelised pistachio choux, quince mousse and lemon meringue pie.

Would it really be an afternoon tea without scones, strawberry jam and Cornish clotted cream? Mouth-watering freshly baked scones were the highlight for me. The best part? Each sweet treat, pastry and teacake were consistently replenished, and everything felt essentially bottomless. I’d say it’s certainly worth the splurge.

Dress to Impress

From polished tuxedos to glamorous dresses, The Palm Court room felt like something out of Bridgerton. The elegant ambience is complemented by a music ensemble from a resident pianist – the finest ingredient.

I love to dress to impress, so the dress code was a win for me. Strict yet beautifully charming attire is required. Gentlemen are expected to wear a jacket and tie and no jeans or sportswear are permitted for both men and women.

The afternoon ended with an extravagant surprise from the resident pianist, playing Happy Birthday with a luxury celebratory cake presented. Quite simply an unforgettable experience…
