Secrets of the Royal Bedchamber exhibition

Take a trip to Hampton Court today to see a fascinating exhibition, which revolves around six royal beds – each with a unique story to tell. Secrets of the Royal Bedchamber reveals an incredible world of intrigue, scandal, power and politics as well as fabulous costumes and breathtaking, Baroque beds. Unlike your personal bedroom, the monarch’s state bedchamber was a very public place and the real seat of power, which was run by elaborate rituals and ceremony. For more information and behind-the-scenes gossip, go to the Historic Royal Palaces website.

Vintage fairs

Love pottering around a vintage fair at the weekend? Check out these two regular crowd-pleasers. First off is the Solihull Vintage Fair, which offers all kinds of preloved fashions, accessories and homewares. And while you’re there, pop into their Vintage Tea Party for delicious refreshments and treats served on vintage crockery and raising funds for their local Solihull Life Opportunities charity (SoLO). Then, in the centre of Milton Keynes, you’ll find MK Handmade and Vintage, with 120 stalls showcasing high-quality and affordable treasures from designer-makers and vintage sellers.

Make a cake stand from an old tea set

If you do go to a vintage fair this weekend, look out for a few pieces of vintage crockery to turn into something gorgeous. There are all sorts of quirky ideas on All About You to update old china, including a cake stand made from an old tea set and another one from vintage plates and glasses. They are both easy to make and will look fabulous on your table the next time you invite the girls around for a tea party.

Happy Sunday
