No matter what part of your life exercise plays, activewear has an important role. It’s important to arm yourself with the right tools, and one of the most important for women? The right sports bra. Whether you’re trying high impact exercise like HIIT, or something more low impact such as yoga, follow our simple how-to guide on the top tips to find the right sports bra, and enhance your activity for the better.

Five things to know about finding the right sports bra

Know your size

Did you know, 80% of women are wearing the wrong bra size? Before you invest in a new sports bra, you may want to go for a fitting, or you could self-measure at home. Your sports bra will be the same size as your normal size, even if it feels tighter. However, be careful that it doesn’t feel too suppressive, as you’ll still need some movement. Jump around a little when trying it on if necessary!

Different types of sports = different bra needs

The more intense the sport, the higher impact sports bra that you’ll need. They go from a scale low to extra-high impact, and it’s best to ensure your breasts are as supportive as possible. By not using the right support in your sports bra, the alright delicate ligaments could be stretched further.

Don’t forget, larger breasts need to always have a high or extra-high impact support, as you’re dealing with more weight.

Consider adjustable straps

Whilst a good quality sports bra will last you a long time, purchasing one with adjustable straps aids longevity. Not only is it useful for if your size fluctuates, but also through wear over time the straps can be tightened, meaning it can last for even longer.

Materials matter

Let’s be honest. If you’re working out, the likelihood is high that you may sweat. That’s why you’ll need a sports bra that soaks up the material in order to avoid chafing and discomfort. However, in particular look to materials such as nylon, spandex and polyester over standard cotton as it makes it heavier and takes longer to dry.

Find a bra that makes you feel confident

Whilst the scientific reasons for finding the right sports bra are fundamental, the aesthetics are equally as important. When choosing the one for you, consider all of the above, but also search for a design, colour and style that you’d actually want to wear. You’d be surprised at how much motivation it can bring!
