Trend: Poncho

What do ponchos make you think of – Betty Suarez from Ugly Betty, a theme park ride or how about a movie character? For too long now, ponchos have been a piece of fashion far from the trendy path, but not any more.  2012 has seen the rise of the poncho with celebs and stylistas working the fearless look with ease.  Our eyes have been opened and ponchos are the new favourite way to layer and you know that’s a key trend this season.

Originating in South America centuries ago, the poncho was a blanket with one hole for the head. Jump to 2012 and the heavy, native-inspired traditional prints have given way to a more stylish design with luxury fabrics including mohair and cashmere that envelop the body for a totally sumptuous feel.

With so many different designs and styles, the poncho is proving one of the most versatile cover-ups for AW. The AW12/13 catwalks showcased designs from Carlos Miele, Custo Barcelona and Michael Kors amongst others with a distinct chic look. Celebrities have quickly followed suit and the overarching theme is ‘neutral simplicity’ making them adaptable for any outfit whether casual or dressy. Neutral beiges and monochromatic are the chicest way to work this trend. Wear them short or long in thick knits for the most up to date look. We’ve selected a few of our favourites  from the sales today from Nougat, Fran & Jane and Gali Rose Italy. You can shop them here for up to 75% off – savvy shopping at its finest.

Love it or hate it, the poncho is back and we’ve got just the ticket to keep you trend led and fashion faux pas free so hit the sales here for more inspiration and fashion forward pieces.
