What are Caudalie’s origins?

Born in the heart of the Bordeaux region, Caudalie is a fully independent, family-owned French skincare brand that draws its expertise from active ingredients derived from the vine and grapes.

The brand was established in 1995 by founders Mathilde and Bertrand Thomas after they met Professor Vercauteren, Laboratory Director of Pharmacy at the University of Bordeaux (he’s a specialist in Polyphenols, which are naturally active ingredients derived from grape seeds with extraordinary antioxidant powers). Two years of research later, a patent was filed and the first Caudalie skincare products were created.

Caudalie’s mission? It’s pretty simple: they hope to become the most effective clean, natural and most importantly, environmentally friendly beauty brand.

How are Caudalie environmentally friendly?

1% for the planet

Caudalie has been involved with the 1% for the Planet network since 2012, donating 1% of its turnover to environmental NGOs. Impressive, right? These help the regions of the world most threatened by deforestation and where biodiversity is in danger.

Even more impressively, Caudalie are the world’s top skincare contributor, By the end of 2021 they’ll have planted approximately 9 million trees, potentially off-setting their CO2 emissions up to four times.

Recycled packaging

On top of planting millions of trees, Caudalie are working to ensure that all of their own packaging is fully recycled, recyclable or refillable by 2022. Mathilde and Bertrand have also launched 100% Plastic Collect, a project which aims to clear plastic from the ocean and transform it into resources.

The Caudalie Vinoperfect range

The jewel in Caudalie’s crown? It’s the Caudalie Vinoperfect range, of course. There’s literally nothing out there like it, as it includes the patented (secret ingredient) Viniferine – which is owned by Caudalie.  This comes from vine sap, which provides a dark-spot correcting action that is around 62 times more effective than Vitamin C. Their most famous product is no doubt the cult Vinoperfect Radiance Serum;  but a three step routine of Caudalie Vinoperfect will achieve the best results.

Here’s how to use one of our favourites, the All Day Glow routine.

Step One – Vinoperfect Concentrated Brightening Essence

Vinoperfect Concentrated Brightening Essence 100ml – £12

Effective, yet gentle on the skin, this first step – which is somewhat between a serum and a lotion – is easily absorbed. It works to eliminate the dead skin cells which cause dullness, and revives the skin’s natural radiance. Plus, its delicate natural orange blossom fragrance is super refreshing – perfect for first thing in the morning.

Step Two – Vinoperfect Radiance Serum

Vinoperfect Radiance Serum 50ml – £33

Next, look to Caudalie’s most famous product, the Vinoperfect Radiance Serum. It corrects the appearance of existing dark spots and evens the complexion, making it brighter and more radiant. Effective on all types of dark spots, (sun, acne, melasma, age) it’s suitable for all skin types – even for those prone to sensitivity.

Step Three – Vinoperfect Dark Spot Correcting Moisturiser

Vinoperfect Dark Spot Correcting Moisturiser – £20.50

All good skincare routines should be completed with the perfect moisturiser, but for the very best, we recommend Caudalie’s Vinoperfect Dark Spot Correcting Moisturiser. In a velvety gel texture (say no to greasy skin!) it instantly produces more vibrant, luminous skin. It smells amazing, too, with a plant-based fragrance combining notes of bergamot, mandarin, lemon leaf, cucumber and fresh mint.
