What You Need for a UK Beach Staycation

One of our favourite things about the pandemic? Rediscovering our love of our home soil and exploring the great British seaside. With holidays abroad somewhat of a 50/50 this year, consider the beautiful coasts of Devon, Cornwall, Whitby and more; the best holiday could in fact be a UK beach staycation. Already mentally packing? Here’s the essentials you’ll need.

Colourful Beach Towels

Whether escaping a cold dip in the sea or laying down and relaxing with some snacks and a cocktail, ensure fun in the sun with a colourful towel. We love Dock & Bay for their sand resistant and quick dry microfibre qualities, and they’re lightweight, making them perfectly portable, too.

Calvin Klein Cruise Beach Towel, Pink – £23

Sporty Jackets and Lightweight Layers

Whether you have plans to get active with some sailing or kayaking, or simply understand the need to be prepared against the unpredictable British elements, a functional sporty jacket is a must for your trip to the beach. Be it a windbreaker or a waterproof, a lightweight jacket is easy to pack, and you’ll be grateful for it when the inevitable downpour occurs.

Regatta Pink Waterproof Lightweight Jacket – £29

Didriksons Navy Waterproof Jacket – £95

A portable grill for a beach BBQ

Berghoff Black Portable Table Top BBQ – £99

Peckish? What better thing than to have a barbecue on a beach. An investment in a portable barbecue is the perfect summer al fresco dining addition, just be sure to check in advance whether the beach your visiting allows it first.

Suitable footwear

Whilst we’re fans of high glamour, comfort must take precedence on the great British beaches. Fortunately, here at BrandAlley, we cater for both. When it comes to flip flops, Havaianas have got you covered, or Fitflop’s ergonomic pairs are a must if you have some serious walking planned. Plus, you can never go wrong with a pair of trainers.

Fitflop Silver Lulu Cross Back Strap Leather Sandals – £39

Havaianas Vibrant Orange Top Mix Flip Flops – £15

New Balance Beige and Gold 574 Trainers – £32

Outdoor Games

Make it a family affair and spend some quality time together planning some outdoor games. A non-negotiable? Bringing a ball, of course, because who can resist a game of beach volleyball or football. You could also try something a little different, like classic games such as ring block, or (if you have a car to transport it) even some giant Jenga.

Bex Ring Toss – £17

Sunsport Pair of Pop Up Football Goals – £90

Bex Giant Tower – £49

A practical picnic basket

If a picnic is more your thing, then why not go all out with a ready-made picnic set, easily organised with cutlery, plates, glasses – and most importantly, a wine cooler. Look to Navigate for a one-size-fits all collection, keeping you prepared for all eventualities. Just try and hold off until at least midday to resist tucking into your delicious treats…

Bluetooth Speakers

Curate the perfect atmosphere and set the mood with a carefully considered beach-ready playlist. You don’t just have to rely on the tinny sounds from your mobile, either, a Bluetooth speaker from Lexon is a smart choice to aid a considered ambience.

A Stylish One Piece

Although we may not be able to count on the weather, we can rely on a killer outfit to have you feeling the part (and imagining you’re reclining in the med). Take the opportunity to take your favourite, most stylish piece of swimwear out of hibernation for your trip to the UK coast. After all, without the perfect ensemble, how else will you be prepared for the obligatory beach Instagram image?
