The Post-Lockdown Activities We’re Most Excited For

As we hit the one year milestone since the start of Lockdown 1.0; words like ‘furlough’, ‘R number’, ‘restrictions’ and the dreaded C word has fast become a part of our daily jargon. Whilst we can dwell on the months of Netflix overindulgence, home baking and endless Zoom calls, instead we’re choosing to look forward to the months ahead; the post-lockdown activities that are at the top of our list once restrictions begin to lift, up to the hopeful date of June 21st where we return to some semblance of normality.

Post-Lockdown Activities

Fresh bedding for houseguests

If anyone had ever told us we’d feel nostalgic about making up a fresh bed for inviting our loved ones over, we’d have thought they were joking around. However, after months of not hosting anyone in our space (as well as no hotels), our interior decoration skills are going to be pushed to the highest limits. Extravagant? We prefer caring.

Finally meeting your friend’s new baby

Whilst lockdown didn’t provide the baby boom the world was expecting, many of us have a loved one with an infant we’re yet to meet. With plenty of cuddles and quality time planned, we’re struggling to contain our excitement over meeting a fresh face.

Wearing footwear that isn’t slippers

Our favourite fluffy slippers have been subject to a lot of love over the past twelve months, however it’s been a while since we’ve complained about the pain of high heels and breaking in an exceptionally stiff pair of leather brogues. Here’s to beauty before pain and prioritising aesthetics over comfort! (We’re all guilty of it.)

Kurt Geiger Camel Patent Burlington Court Shoes – £45

Unanimous cheers in the pub when someone drops their glass

We just miss the pub and our favourite cocktail bars in general, really. They should bottle the unanimous inexplicable euphoria that comes from a smashed glass in a pub, it’s reminiscent of someone dropping their tray in a busy school dining hall.

Having a reason to put a full face of makeup on

The pandemic has shown two types of people. Those who have let their makeup expire without so much of a flick of mascara, and those who have continued their daily regime without a thought. Regardless of your preference, the prospect of having a real life occasion to wear makeup for is motivation enough.

Dressing up for a friends wedding

If all goes well, normal weddings should be allowed to be resumed by the end of summer. And, a celebration of love sounds like just the tonic that we’re all in need of after a crazy year. Aside from that, what better occasion could there be to treat yourself to a new dress or suit? Shopping is always a good idea.

Friday evenings spent in a friends garden

In less than a week’s time, we’re able to meet up to five other people in a private garden or in the park. Exciting right? As the nights draw out (thank you, daylight saving), the possibility of spontaneous Friday evenings after work, accompanied by an Aperol Spritz or iced latte sounds pretty heavenly to us.

The first smell of ‘holiday’ when you step off the plane

Ambitious? Potentially. However, after being stuck to the confines of our localities, we can’t help but dream about our first post-lockdown vacation. Somewhere hot? Non-negotiable. Our next trip abroad may not be until 2022, however we’re keeping the excitement of arriving at a dream location at the forefront of our minds.

Live music

Music has been a means of therapy for many of us over the past year or so. Some of us have seen it as a form of escapism and nostalgia, listening to our favourite artists and albums, others have taken the opportunity to discover new genres and styles. Many of us have experienced the disappointment of a postponed or cancelled gig over the past year, however our excitement for the ambience of being at our first real concert (hopefully sometime soon) is incomparable.

Finally being reunited with our family

Of course, we’re keeping the best until the last. With many missed memories and quality time with the ones we love the most, the prospect of soon being able to spend time with the key figures in our lives is keeping us going. It’s been a tough old year, but we’ve all made the most of it. Better days are coming – and we’re ready.
