Aquascutum

Founded by John Emary in 1851 as a Mayfair Tailors, Aquascutum has become a leading British brand. With their invention of waterproof clothing, the Aquascutum menswear range is famous for its outwear, in particular the trench coat with the very word ‘Aquascutum’ meaning ‘water shield’ in Latin.

The Aquascutum trench coat was created in 1914 and used by the British military in World War 1 and 2. Their fine design and waterproof capability won them much praise from both the soldiers and the public and as a result of this, Aquascutum begin to produce their trench coats for retail.

After King Edward VII first promoted the label, Aquascutum soon received a royal warrant in 1897, marking the beginning of a long patronage with the royal family. Nowadays, Aquascutum continues to produce a noteworthy and classic collection of menswear that remains true to its original designs.
